Marina just reminded me that the “Puppy Love” video exists, so naturally I rewatched.

The plot: Jermaine Dupri allows Lil Bow Wow to house-sit for him with the stipulation that he not make a mess. Bow Wow immediately invites Solange (his girlfriend who’s achieved markedly more puberty landmarks than he has) over so they can eat cheese balls, look at CDs and cruise an indoor basketball court in a Power Wheels. Jagged Edge, who are featured on the track, are never invited inside — they harmonize politely from the front stoop and the back patio. The video ends with a trip to a diner and a hug goodnight.

I’ve noticed that while I’m drifting off to sleep, I’ll think a normal thought and then I’ll drift into another thought that doesn’t make sense. Like, last night I had the thought, “I should try and water the plants with soda because they’ll like it more.” After I thought that, my brain went, “Wait- what the fuck kind of thought was that?” Then I stayed awake a little longer trying to remember how I got to that thought. And again, while falling asleep, I drifted into another weird thought. The cycle repeats itself over and over again. This happens to me all the time BUT WHAT IS IT AM I CRAZY AM I BEING HAUNTED?

Hypnagogic hallucinations are often auditory or have an auditory component. Like the visuals, hypnagogic sounds vary in intensity from faint impressions to loud noises, such as crashes and bangs (exploding head syndrome).
